The Devil's Punchbowl: A Novel - Greg Iles I really liked this book, Again Iles kept me guessing until the very end (including the ending of the book by not telling about Penn's father or what he wanted to say!). However my major gripe with this book is the violence. I don't feel it was completely necessary to go into that much graphic detail about the dog fighting scenes. Most people in America know how incredibly violent dog fighting is. I think those parts were done in really bad taste and frankly, as an animal lover it turned me off the book a bit. Not to mention the graphic detail that Iles goes into when Penn and Kelly come across a dying dog. Just completely unnecessary to describe the sound the wind is making as it's going through the dog's skull (I didn't want to get graphic but that's how graphic the book is). Again, absolutely unnecessary!
